Laser Treatments

What is a CO2 laser?

The CO2 laser is a medical device that uses carbon dioxide to produce high-precision light that vaporizes the superficial layers of the skin. It helps improve skin texture, smooth wrinkles and fine lines, reduce scars and imperfections, eliminate certain benign lesions, and rejuvenate the appearance of the face and eyelids. The CO2 laser can be fractional (gentler, faster recovery) or continuous (more powerful, longer recovery).

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main side effects?

Side effects are rare, transient, and usually benign:

  • slight redness or small bruises at the injection sites
  • temporary feeling of tightness
  • mild headaches
  • in rare cases, temporary asymmetry, ptosis, or transient muscle weakness

These signs generally disappear within a few hours or a few days after Botox injection at the Lausanne clinic.

The goal is to relax and reduce the activity of facial muscles to soften expression lines while preserving natural mobility. However, a partial reduction in mobility is inevitable.

Botox can be considered as soon as the first expression lines appear, typically between 30 and 35 years of age. It also has a preventive action by reducing the muscular force responsible for wrinkles, which slows their formation while maintaining a natural result.

The main contraindications are:

  • pregnancy,
  • an infection or inflammation of the area to be treated,
  • neuromuscular diseases (e.g., myasthenia gravis),
  • a known allergy to one of the product’s components (rare).

Generally, injections are performed 2 to 3 times a year. Over time, some muscles relax more permanently, which may reduce the required frequency.

Botox is not measured in syringes, but in units. Depending on the depth of the wrinkles, the strength of the muscles, the treated area, and the desired result, generally between 1 and 5 units are used per injection point. For example, the glabellar line (frown line) usually requires between 12 and 20 units.
