Botulinum toxin, or Botox®, the name of the first brand marketed, is a purified substance used in aesthetic medicine to temporarily relax certain facial muscles responsible for expression lines, without freezing them. Botox injections at our Lausanne practice are targeted, gentle, and precise, to preserve the naturalness of expressions while providing a rested and rejuvenated appearance.
Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks neurotransmitters (chemical messengers that transmit information between neurons), preventing muscle contraction to smooth expression lines, prevent their formation, and relax facial features. Several areas can be treated with Botox injections at our Lausanne practice.
The first effects generally appear between 3 and 5 days, with optimal results around 10 to 15 days. The effects last 3 to 5 months, depending on individual response.
Facial analysis and precise identification of facial musculature and areas to be treated.
Small injections are performed using very fine needles, with no anesthesia required.
The first effects appear after a few days, for a 15 to 25-minute session.

These signs generally disappear within a few hours or a few days after Botox injection at the Lausanne clinic.
The goal is to relax and reduce the activity of facial muscles to soften expression lines while preserving natural mobility. However, a partial reduction in mobility is inevitable.
Botox can be considered as soon as the first expression lines appear, typically between 30 and 35 years of age. It also has a preventive action by reducing the muscular force responsible for wrinkles, which slows their formation while maintaining a natural result.
The main contraindications are:
Generally, injections are performed 2 to 3 times a year. Over time, some muscles relax more permanently, which may reduce the required frequency.
Botox is not measured in syringes, but in units. Depending on the depth of the wrinkles, the strength of the muscles, the treated area, and the desired result, generally between 1 and 5 units are used per injection point. For example, the glabellar line (frown line) usually requires between 12 and 20 units.
